Soft Foam Parts (Rubex-S)

Metzeler Schaum GmbH manufacture a great number of polyurethane soft foam formed parts for the automotive industry’s many different areas of application.

  • Volume weight and hardness can be adjusted according to client specifications
  • Series 60 volume weight – 180 Kg/m³
  • Parts dimensions up to 2,000 x 2,000 mm
  • Fire-resistant according to FMVSS 302

Hard foam formed parts

Metzeler Schaum GmbH manufacture a great number of polyurethane hard foam formed parts for the automotive industry’s many different areas of application.

  • Volume weight and hardness can be adjusted according to client specifications
  • Series 150 volume weight – 400 Kg/m³
  • Fibre-reinforcement possible
  • Parts dimensions up to 2,200 x 2,000 mm
  • Fire-resistant according to FMVSS 302

Areas of Application:

  • Self-retaining components
  • Heat insulation
  • Seat adapters, modules

The following materials can be foam-covered:

  • Metal inserts
  • Plastics parts
  • Attachment elements (retainers, hinges, Velcro, bolts, etc.)

Advantages:

  • Can be used to replace EPP, PP and injection moulding parts.
  • High flexibility for small to medium batches.
  • Very complex geometries are possible at quite adequate tool requirements.
  • Additional functions can be integrated by the respective forms.
Cover Parts

Metzeler Schaum GmbH deliver a great number of cover parts (separate, as assembly and as a complete module) for the utility vehicle, bus and automotive industries’ many different applications. The cover parts are manufactured by using a special foil backed with polyurethane hard foam.

  • Volume weight and hardness can be adjusted according to client specifications
  • Series 150 volume weight – 400 Kg/m³
  • Fibre-reinforcement possible
  • Parts dimensions up to 2,200 x 2,000 mm
  • Fire-resistant according to FMVSS 302

Areas of Application:

  • Cover parts (cockpit, columns, wheel arch covers …)
  • Covers (claps, columns …)

The following materials can be foam-backed:

  • Leather (pre-formed)
  • Carpet / Dilour
  • PVC synthetic leather (with grain)

Composite flock formed parts – Rebond METZOPOR®

Our METZOPOR® product range consists of select, unused layered polyurethane foam manufactured by us. Rebond formed parts complement conventional polyurethane formed foam parts due to their additional acoustic function.

  • Volume weight 80 – 200 Kg/m³
  • Parts dimensions up to 1,000 x 1,000 mm
  • Fire-resistant according to FMVSS302, TL 1010 etc.
  • Different densities within one component are possible

Specialties:

  • Foams complying with Daimler DBL 5456.05
  • PU coating can be applied
  • Acoustic effect

Metzeler Schaum GmbH specialise in manufacturing ester and ether-based polyurethane foams (METZONOR®). We process these into rolled products for the different automotive applications. Processing possibilities for our clients include flame or adhesive laminations, roll-punching, etc.

The resulting products are used in roof liners, seats, door side covers, head-rests and many other applications.

  • Our foams are customised according to our clients’ specifications
  • Volume weight 20 – 80 Kg/m³
  • Compression hardness 1.0 – 12-0 kPa
  • Cut / gap widths von 1.5 – 90 mm
  • Gap width depends on the respective foam type.
  • Fire-resistant according to FMVSS302, TL 1010 etc.

  • Foams with strongly increased fire protection (B2)

This section is divided into polyurethane soft foam and rebond block products.

Polyurethane foam block products:
  • Our foams are customised according to our client’s specifications
  • Ester- & ether-based
  • Volume weight 23 – 80 Kg/m³
  • Compression hardness 1.0 – 12.0 kPa
  • Standard dimensions: 2,050 x 1,050 mm, block height depending on foam type
  • We will also gladly deliver dimensions according to client specifications
  • Fire-resistant according to FMVSS302, TL 1010 etc.

Metzeler Schaum GmbH are able to laminate polyurethane soft foam (rolled products, sheet products and layered foam/punched parts) and its METZOPOR ® products (sheet products and layered foam/punched parts) with different covers. All versions named are available with the following covers:

  • Textiles (cotton jersey, …)
  • Fabric (polyamide, fibreglass, carbon fibre, …)

We can manufacture many different layered foam parts (2D and 3D geometries) for our clients. Ester- and ether-based polyurethane foams (METZONOR®) can be used for this as well as composite flock foams (METZOPOR®). Layered foam pieces can also be made of concealed foams.

The comfortable and ergonomic seat concept.

ErgoFlexx® is a new seat system that adjusts to perfectly support the areas of chest, ribs, lumbar spine, spine and pelvis.

ErgoFlexx® cushions consist of an open-cell foam core and a closed outer skin. Contour adjustment is achieved by de-/increasing the component’s inside volume. Three-dimensional expansion is possible.

The ErgoFlexx® system operating pressure reaches from high negative to slightly positive pressures.

The ErgoFlexx® cushion geometry guarantees perfect fit adapted to the contours of the spine. The ErgoFlexx® system can be adjusted passively as well as actively.

Climate Seat

The current state of the art for “climate seats” is an active ventilation system with the following features:

Additional electric motors (air supply and exhaust) with additional side effects:

  • Increased weight
  • Increased costs!
  • Noise generation from the electric motors
  • Unpleasant air flow from the electric motors is possible (cool air is blown towards the warm and sweaty body)
Climate seat system idea using “tubes” for the following advantages:
  • Less sweat
  • Comfortable seating, in particular in the area of the back
  • Passive ventilation system
  • Weight reduction from ventilation holes
  • No additional electrical consumer required (CO2)
  • Clear cost potential as compared to the current system!

The “tubes” system is a patented passive ventilation system that has proven its effectiveness and received awards in the mattress industry.

Metzotex® Airliner

To implement our idea of a passive climate seat, the “upper product” (textile or leather) must also be able to “breathe”, i.e. be permeable by air.
The decisive factor here is using a special foam system that offers the required basis for any seating textile:
